Description

THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET Written by Sandra Cisneros Adapted by Amy Ludwig Directed by David Lozano February 21 – March 3, 2020 Latino Cultural Center Esperanza’s story is the experience of so many Mexican-American girls during the stage of life between childhood and adolescence. We see her rush into the innocent games, fantasies and friendships of childhood, yet she begins to become conscious of the dangers and contradictions of being a young women living in the barrio. Esperanza tries to make sense of her place in the world while observing the lives of the women around her and decides hers is going to be different. Performed in English and Spanish. Recommended for ages 13 and up. (Grades 7 and up) Show Themes: FAMILY, CULTURE, TRADITION, FRIENDSHIP, COMING OF AGE, GENDER EQUALITY, COMMUNITY, SELF-IDENTITY There will be a talk back with the actors after the performance.

Students Will

  • Witness a well known book come to life through performance
  • Enjoy a production of The House on Mango Street
  • Partake in a 15 minute discussion with the cast after the performance

School Fee: $7.50 per student. For every ten student tickets there will be a complimentary ticket for an adult chaperone.

Deadline: Three days before performance
Cancellation Policy: All residencies and touring performances can be rescheduled with Cara Mía 1 week prior to class start date. However, in the case that a workshop or residency cannot be rescheduled, it can be canceled up to a week (seven days) before the agreed start date. After a week from the start date, Cara Mía requires half of the payment for the workshop or residency in the case of a cancellation. After the start date, Cara Mía requires full payment for the touring workshop or residency. Touring shows can be canceled a week (seven days) before performance. After a week before performance date, Cara Mía requires full payment for a cancellation. Field trip performances to Cara Mía shows are non-refundable regardless of circumstances such as bad weather, difficulty with transportation or scheduling difficulties.

Cara Mia instructors are not allowed to release children to parents. Please inform the Instructors of appropriate arrival and dismissal process. A class session will consist of a maximum of 25 students. A DISD staff member may be required to monitor behavior.
