Description

Through the use of brilliant puppetry, ventriloquism, storytelling, and audience participation, children will learn about our solar system. Comedian and actress, Margaret Clauder, will grab your students attention as her puppets "The Sun", "Mother Earth" and "The Moon" teach children about the order of the planets in our solar system, the phases of the moon, the meaning and difference between terms such as revolve, rotate, orbit and spin. Clever mnemonics will be taught and children will listen and repeat these mnemonics to help them learn the order of the planets as well as the phases of the moon. A true story about the first PAID female astronomer, Caroline Hershel, will come alive with Margaret's brilliant puppetry and ventriloquism skills as children are transported in time via their imagination to the late 1700's when Caroline and her brother William built the largest telescope in the world to observe and map the stars. Her brother William became famous for discovering the planet "Uranus" and Caroline became famous as well for discovering many comets on her own. At the end of the program children will observe "shooting stars" in the form of a confetti launch from a faux telescope. All the children will get to take the stars back to their classroom and construct an original artwork depicting what they learned about the solar system or to illustrate the story told.
