Description

CURTAINS UP ON READING RESIDENCY: A Multi-Sensory Unit of Study. Students begin this unit with a journey on the Underground Railroad. Using sound, silence and spirituals, students experience the hardships of this difficult journey. Students can also study about famous abolitionists of the period. A Curtains Up Residency artist can help classes conduct an in-depth study of the life of a Confederate or Union Soldier. Literature and actual letters from the period allow students to achieve a fuller understanding of the Civil War. DCT has developed and perfected this creative curriculum and unique teaching style over several years.

Students Will

  • Work with a professional theater artist to explore the Underground Railroad and Civil War.
