Description

***‘Marionettes: String Variety’ is a fast-paced musical variety show featuring large-scale marionettes. *** During the show participants draw correlations between historical events and current experiences. They listen attentively and ask questions while learning about the job of a puppeteer, and the role puppetry plays in communication and language literacy. They examine how the changes in tools and technology have affected the ways that puppets are constructed, and they follow a sequence of actions designed to explain the physics of the marionette. Participants also identify the use of music, creative movement, and visual components in dramatic play. ***Our popular interactive post-show presentation explores the historical and cultural importance of puppetry across the world. Audience participation, both during and after the show, creates important engagement opportunities for all students’ varied interests and learning styles. *** A great follow up to the ‘String Variety’ stage show are the hands-on master classes, 'I Am a Puppeteer,’ whereby students learn to build and operate puppets!
