Standards

Description
Students discuss plant and human similarities and differences, such as: chlorophyll is to plants as blood is to humans. They explore the symbiotic relationship between plant and human respiration; exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide with one another, and learn that there are relationships, systems and cycles within environments. *** Participants are encouraged to read, research, listen and express their views as they develop a sense of responsibility for their own Ecosystem...their own Community. Through this process they begin thinking - regeneration, conservation, recycle and history - how they can affect the future by including plants in their solutions to the problems of today! *** While discussing solutions students examine how industry and agriculture changed the American way of life. They compare ways that various communities meet their needs and consider common characteristics of communities, past and present. Per Student $3 fee, covers take-home live plants, soil, and seeds. *** Programming provided by a Dallas County Certified Master Gardener. *** Also see WE ARE THE EARTH * Residency

  • Focus on seeing themselves as part of the ecosystem of the Earth, like plants.
  • Develop their own problem-solving process to identify a problem, gather information, list and consider options, consider advantages and disadvantages, choose and implement a solution, and evaluate the effectiveness of the solution.
  • Use their scientific investigation and reasoning skills to observe Nature as they travel to and from school. They will be encouraged to operate with a greater sense of awareness for the world around them.
  • Discuss common characteristics of communities, past and present.
  • Examine how industry and agriculture changed the American way of life.
  • Per Student $3 fee, covers take-home live plants, soil and seeds.

All Animal Encounter pre-recorded Asynchronous programming links will be available for three consecutive school days. Other links vary from 2-3 days. Ask about weekend bookings.

Cancellation Policy: A program is confirmed when you receive your contract. Should inclement weather or other unforeseen emergency circumstances prevent the program from taking place as scheduled, we will offer the option of rescheduling. All cancellations are subject to full payment. With the exception of unforeseen circumstances, changing the date of a specific session can be made with two weeks' notice and is subject to the availability of the artist.
After School Policy: A teacher or afterschool employee must be with the students at all times to assist with classroom management. They are also responsible for supervising the students before and after class, walking students to the bus or releasing students to their parents.
