Description

The student audience takes the "Underground Railroad" back in time to 1902. They are in Auburn, NY, sitting on the front porch of the the renowned ex-slave and abolitionist Harriet Tubman. With the help of her musician accompanist and friend, Jeffrey, Mrs. Tubman regales her visitors with tales of her childhood, the realities of slavery and her harrowing and heroic escape and rescue of hundreds of fellow captives. The show features the well-known DFW singer/actress Sheran Keyton as Mrs. Tubman and Willy Welch as Jeffrey Taylor, her friend and letter-writer/reader.

Students Will

  • learn about the life of the great African-American leader Harriet Tubman, about pre-Civil War black history and slavery.
  • sing along with 19th century black American songs.
  • get an inside look at life as a slave in pre-Civil War America

School Fee: $300 for one show, $550 for two back-to-back.

Technical Needs: A large chair for Mrs. Tubman, preferably a rocker, is requested but not required.

Cancellation Policy: If less than two weeks before scheduled booking, and re-scheduling is impossible, a 50% of the fee is required.
After School Policy: Teachers must be present during presentations.
