Standards

Description

Geography, history and music of the Caribbean Islands with focus on the cultural diversity of the island area. Includes folk music from six cultures. Lower grades will focus on Caribbean geography, steel drums, games and songs. Upper grades will learn about Caribbean geography, short history of multicultural citizens on the islands, steel drums, dance, songs and music. Students will listen to songs sung in; English, Spanish, French, (Creole), Zulu, Portuguese

Students Will

  • learn the difference between the sea and the ocean
  • Learn where the Caribbean Islands are located and about the major cultural influences that inhabit the islands
  • Companion book - WHEN DONKEYS FLY by Elisabeth Schoberl
  • LeLearn about the Pan or Steel Drum and it's importance on the Caribbean Culture
  • Learn the importance of donkeys on the island

Times: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Technical Needs: one long 5 ft folding table, room enough for the student to dance the limbo.

Deadline: for booking is 2 weeks notice
Cancellation Policy: All booked programs are confirmed when you receive your contract from Rochelle Rabouin by email. Should illness, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances prevent the program from taking place as scheduled, ROCHELLE RABOUIN / BOITUMELO will offer the option of rescheduling. Programs canceled by the school or venue after confirmation are subject to full payment.
After School Policy: A teacher (s) or after school employee (s) must remain with class at all times.
