Description
Sheila makes literacy lively, offering a rare opportunity for students to learn the exquisite history and art of bookmaking. After an overview of the history of books, Sheila shares how innovation has influenced the evolution of books overtime. Next, students will make their own books. They employ four different styles that represent the development of the book throughout history, including scroll books, Japanese stab binding, accordion books, and pamphlet stitch. Children then either write a simple story for one of their books, or choose a story they have already written. The finishing touches come when the students illustrate their stories. During this residency students will create four books or one book per week. This hands-on project enhances students learning by providing opportunities for all types of learners in different ways: visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic.

Dates: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Times: 9:00am - 5:00pm
Duration: Four 1-hour sessions - more can be added for a more in-depth experience
School Fee: $600 for 4 days or $150 per class. Miminum of 4 days required.
Minimum Attendance: 5
Maximum Attendance: 30

Technical Needs: Students need a table or desk to complete this project.

Deadline: Please contact Sheila to schedule within one week of receiving your voucher.
Cancellation Policy: Cancelling two weeks or more prior to scheduled date a full refund less a processing fee of $20 will be refunded. Within 2 weeks, a 50% refund will be returned or apply full fee to a future session. Notification of less than 24 hours has no refund. Cancellations should be made by phone 972-822-3027 AND by email at [email protected]. Should illness, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances prevent the program taking place as scheduled, Sheila will offer the option of rescheduling.
After School Policy: A teacher or afterschool employee must remain with class at all times. Maximum students 30.
