Description

This interactive program allows students to explore the amusing world of non-traditional books that move when opened, such as flag, star, pop-up and tunnel books. They will feel like authors and designers as they learn how to lay out a story and illustrations they’ve created to fit in the context of their book. Children are often surprised at the remarkable results they achieve under Sheila’s instruction. Each week students will create a new moveable book. This hands-on project enhances students learning by providing opportunities for all types of learners in different ways: visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic.

Students Will

  • Learn to make nontraditional books that move and turn into sculptural shapes when opened
  • Build sequencing skills
  • Learn how to layout a story to express their original idea
  • Express ideas through original stories and artworks
  • Create illustrations for their books that are based on personal observations and experiences
  • Integrate a variety of ideas about self, life events, family, and community in original stories and artworks.
