On Campus Program

Texas is represented by many diverse cultures that have created a unique history. Audience members learn American Indian sign language, participate in the traditional Mexican Hat Dance and experience the emancipation of slavery! They become cowboys around the campfire and settlers traveling across the wide Texas plains. Throughout the celebration Q&A tests Texas knowledge. Participants identify: 1) similarities, differences and contributions among various racial and ethnic groups * 2) the significance of various cultural celebrations * 3) the causes of the Civil War, including states' rights and slavery. The historical review sets the stage for interesting conversations regarding our past, our present and the growing pains we endured to get here. We are raising the roof on Texas Pride! Let's Celebrate Texas Together!
