Description

Celebrate the human drive we all possess to simply ‘Be.’ Hear the voices of those who have come and gone before us. Meet people who blazed the path to freedom through fearless tenacity. Sojourn with a young man propelled by the desire to make his own way in the world and with the help of the Underground RailRoad gets to freedom. Through cooperative dramatization, students experience ‘the capture, the middle passage, and the auction block,’ and identify the historical context of these events. They discuss and describe characters, their relationships and their surroundings. They become a part of and feel the heartbeat and urgency of the Underground RailRoad - identifying options, predicting consequences, and taking action to implement a decision. ‘Voices’ highlights the African American experience and also invites all audience members to contemplate and share their personal family journey. Experience, Feel, Celebrate…History.
