Standards

Description

This program uses former Mayor Erik Jonsson as a real-world example of a leader in the Dallas community and a successful entrepreneur. By highlighting his achievements and accomplishments as well as explaining how he created a lasting legacy through community service, students will be able to see what it means to be a leader; how communities are made; and how strategic planning and teamwork can be used to accomplish any goal.

Students Will

  • infer who someone was by looking at artifacts.
  • analyze what makes a community with manipulatives
  • use the benefits of teamwork to solve a mystery.
  • strategically plan for several goals to illustrate the importance of planning
  • design a public building using teamwork

Details

Dates: August 2018 to July 2019
Times: Monday - Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Duration: Each program lasts about 50 minutes and is designed for 30 students. More than one program can be done during a school visit. Allow an additional 1.5 hours for the museum galleries.
School Fee: Price Per Student: $7.00
Minimum Attendance: 20

Technical Needs: 1 adult is REQUIRED for every 10 students.
Other Information: ADULT ADMISSION: We allot one free adult for every ten students, any after that are the regular admission price of $10. Please arrive at the Museum on time. Account for traffic in downtown Dallas by leaving school earlier than initially planned. If you will be late, please call the Museum's front desk at 214-745-1100. The Museum requires one adult for every 20 students. All adults and chaperones are expected to actively participate in the museum program by keeping students on task and engaged.

Deadline: Must be scheduled no later than 5 days before voucher expiration date.
Cancellation Policy: Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be made a minimum of 2 weeks (10 business days) in advance. If you choose not to come on your scheduled day and have not rescheduled, your school or ISD will be responsible for 100% of the amount due for your trip. If your school or ISD is closed on the day of your trip due to inclement weather or other emergencies, we will make every effort to reschedule. If no make-up day is available, you will be refunded the cost of your program. Please understand that when you schedule a school program, the museum schedules staff and volunteers to make the program possible.
