BookMarks! Chrysanthemum: What's in a Name?

Time Frames
After School, Summer, Weekend
On Campus Program
Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, Talented/Gifted

Chrysanthemum loves her perfect name, but when she starts school, she doesn't understand why everyone else doesn't love her name, too. When their music teacher, Mrs. Delphinium Twinkle, introduces herself, Chrysanthemum blossoms again. After generating ideas about how we feel about our names and group brainstorming with a web, students will then write an acrostic poem using their name.

Students Will

  • Create a web diagram
  • Write an acrostic poem using their name
  • Listen to a reading of "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes
  • Discuss being different and bullying
  • Generate ideas for writing
