Description
The Earth is always changing. Weathering, erosion and deposition and the movement of tectonic plates cause slow and rapid changes to the Earth’s surface. In this program, your students will participate in hands-on inquiry with actual rock samples and observe natural processes of change at our interactive stream table. A focused student activity helps students discover the dynamic, natural world as they explore the gallery. Bring Earth science to life in our outdoor learning lab!

Students Will
  • Investigate erosion with an interactive stream table
  • Explore the processes of weathering, erosion and deposition and discover how the earth is changed
  • Sort and describe different types of rocks and their characteristics
  • Model weathering, erosion and deposition, as well as rapid changes to the earth

School Fee: $12 per child/ 1 free teacher per 8 students/ $15 per additional adult / Includes entry to Main Garden ($5-$7.50 per child with financial aid)

Scheduling / Booking
Instructions: To request a program date, complete a program reservation request form on the Dallas Arboretum Education webpage at www.dallasarboretum.org/education. *Please note: A program reservation request form must be completed on our website in order to reserve your program. An email with desired program and voucher number is not sufficient to reserve your spot.* Financial Aid may be available to reduce the cost of your field trip. Deadline: Please e-mail [email protected] or call 214.515.6540 to book your program. Payment in full is due at least two weeks before your desired date.
Cancellation Policy: Cancellation Policy: A non refundable deposit or an Arts Partners voucher and approval code is due within 10 business days of booking your program. Your remaining balance is due two weeks before your scheduled visit date. A program is confirmed when you receive your contract by e-mail. Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent the program from taking place as scheduled, the Arboretum will work with you to reschedule. Changing dates for a program can be made with no less than two weeks advance notice and we will make every effort to reschedule your program to an alternate date. *No refunds will be given for absent students. All programs will begin promptly at the time scheduled. The Dallas Arboretum is not responsible for groups who arrive late. *Cancellation of the program after confirmation is subject to full payment.
After School Policy: After School Policy: An on site teacher or after school staff person must be present for the duration of the workshop. All student participants must adhere to the policies and procedures of the provider program as well as the rules and regulations of the school/ site itself. School/site must provide a clear, clean space or classroom for each session.
