Description

Why do kids need Pilates? Pilates is the art and science of having fun with a total body workout while making dynamic shapes that simulate the alphabet! What is a Supine T, a Prone Swim or a Quadruped Ramp? Hint, one position stretches every muscle in your body in all opposing directions. With another position, your ab muscles are contracted to keep you lifted, but your arms and legs think they’re doing all the work. And with the final movement, you are in a table position using every muscle in your body to keep one body part lifted off the floor. * We are bringing the heat; working alignment, breath, core and posture while creating a movement sequence that tells a story with a beginning, middle, and end. Kids love feeling and seeing a difference in their body/mind as they experience ‘Pilates.’

Students Will

  • Demonstrate attention to form, power, accuracy, and follow-through in performing movement skills.
  • Observe and experience the effect of force on the body such as a push or a pull, gravity and friction
  • Practice postures that cultivate concentration, balance and coordination
  • Develop strong core/ab muscles to assist with a variety of other physical sport and non-sport related activities
  • Explore different breathing styles that promote refection and moment to moment awareness in body, mind and emotions
  • Discuss the importance of safe practices to keep self and others safe and healthy
  • Define the principle of frequency, intensity, and time and describe how to incorporate these principles to improve fitness.
