Description

What makes jazz swing? Classic Brass explains the musical style of jazz from its origins in Africa to its birthplace in New Orleans and then on to the Big Band sounds of Chicago. The group takes a familiar tune such as “Amazing Grace” and shows how it can be “jazzed” up using improvisation. Different cultural and musical styles are used as examples, including Latin, African rhythms, Gospel, call-and-response, and swing. Student volunteers accompany the quintet on percussion instruments. Program delivery is adjusted based on age groups. Educational content is expanded in older grades
