Description

Do flowers bloom in concrete? Can clothes grow on trees? | |Brightness Box| is a hands-on art project that emphasizes students photographing objects in unexpected places around their familiar indoor and outdoor school surroundings. Young artists will use two styles of instant cameras and a digital/instant camera to photograph these juxtapositions, redirecting the way they see themselves and the world around them. Each class session culminates with students arranging their artworks salon-style on a tabletop and then making observations about what they see. Especially suited for second through fifth grade as a daytime, afterschool, or summer program. All cameras, films, printing papers, and props provided. Students will go home with artworks after each class session!

Students Will

  • Understand art technique as related to the medium of photography.
  • Explain the importance of light in photography.
  • Explore new ways of seeing by using instant and hybrid digital/instant cameras in combination with photographing props arranged in surprising places!
  • Literacy Connection: Photographs by Gabriel Orozco ISBN: 978-3-86521-020-3
