Description

Are you ready for some football?! Well…don’t look to the Horace B. Smedley Tornadoes for a win because they’ve never even scored a single point! With an unfocused team that won’t change their attitudes, Coach Armstrong goes crazy. So, Miss Nelson, the school’s favorite teacher, calls in a trusted, but highly feared reinforcement in this zany musical spectacular. The bold and intimidating Coach Viola Swamp whips the Tornadoes into shape just in time for the big rivalry game. Ready. Set. Hut! This play give students the opportunity to view a musical adaptation of a popular picture book staged by Dallas Children’s Theater professionals who have, among many other things, choreographed the dances, blocked the action, designed the costumes, etc. During the show, students can practice being engaged audience members.

Students Will

  • Experience a live theatrical production and observe the contributions of professional theater artists including actors, set and costume designers, director, musical director, stage manager, choreographer, and the crew.
  • Participate as a member of the audience throughout the performance. Students will have ample opportunity to identify, apply, and evaluate appropriate audience behavior while in the theater.
  • Enjoy a hilarious musical that addresses the following themes: school, sports, team effort, and hard work.
  • Visit a professional theater.
