Standards

Description
Imagine problem solving, artistry, the scientific method and culture all wrapped up in a fun and engaging workshop or field trip. By using a range of supplies, students will use the scientific/engineering method to create a robot that will successfully perform it's tasks of drawing straight signs and circles (through trial and error and testing). Students will be also be able to create a shell to emulate the culture of a traditional Russian Nesting Doll( 2nd grade and up) with bold lines and vibrant colors and patterns. Robots are included to take home to share their learning with friends and family.

Students Will
  • Create a (take-home robot through problem solving)
  • Using the scientific and engineering method, students will hypothesize, test and retest their robot to successfully have it draw circles and straight lines
  • Learn the history/culture of the Russian Nesting Doll
  • Create a shell or wrap to create a nesting doll using patterns, bold lines, bright colors and Russian designs. Shell varies per grade level.

Scheduling / Booking
Instructions: Email: [email protected] for field trips or for virtual or school programming. After school programming is not available at this time. Once we receive your email, we will provide your point of contact with a form that must be filled out. Once we have received your form, you will receive a confirmation email.
Deadline: please schedule 2 weeks prior to requested date
Cancellation Policy: Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be made a minimum of 2 weeks (10 business days) in advance. If you choose not to come on your scheduled day and have not rescheduled, your school or ISD will be responsible for 100% of the amount due for your trip. If your school or ISD is closed on the day of your trip due to inclement weather or other emergencies, we will make every effort to reschedule. If no make-up day is available, you will be refunded the cost of your program. Please understand that when you schedule a school program, the museum schedules staff and volunteers to make the program possible.
