Description

Students in 1st and/or 2nd grades, will explore the concepts of Urban Planning and careers in Architecture in this "hands on" five weeks residency. Meeting one hour per week over a five week period, students will learn about how neighborhoods are built by building a paper neighbor. The first two weeks will involve background information (lecture) with videos and a story will be read aloud about a boy who wants to be an architect. Weeks three through four will be spent building the neighborhood, by teams of students coloring, cutting out, building and naming the new area. The students will exhibit their paper neighborhood in week five. Artist provides all materials. Artist will store the exhibit until the reveal.

Students Will

  • Listen to a story (read out loud) about a boy who wants to be an architect.
  • Learn the three categories of communities where people live.
  • Imagine, Create, Color, cut out, form and name their community/city.
  • Exhibit their community for fellow classmates (in an approved area of the campus)
  • View photos and maps of local Urban, Suburban and Rural areas.

Deadline: for booking is 2 weeks notice
Cancellation Policy: All booked programs are confirmed when you receive your contract from Rochelle Rabouin by email. Should illness, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances prevent the program from taking place as scheduled, ROCHELLE RABOUIN / BOITUMELO will offer the option of rescheduling. Programs canceled by the school or venue after confirmation are subject to full payment.
After School Policy: A teacher (s) or after school employee (s) must remain with class at all times.
