Description

Bring It! “I have the Power!” *** ’Feel * Breathe * Think * Respond’ *** We cannot always control our environment or the attitudes of others. We do not want to block our emotions or pretend they do not exist. However, with a bit of practice and focus, we can manage how we handle ourselves in the midst of difficult or unpleasant situations. The sequence 'Feel * Breathe * Think * Respond' helps kids manage feelings, attitudes, and behaviors. 1) First, students will learn breathing techniques. Deep breathing sends oxygen to the brain and body so we can think clearly and respond calmly, constructively. 2) Second, the body was made to move. Students practice movement styles that help them work through life’s difficulties - peacefully, joyously. Each movement style serves a very specific purpose. 3) Third, students discuss issues that matter to them, and explore meaningful ways to take care of ‘self.’ *** Sometimes the heat of our emotions needs to be worked-out through high-energy movement that wears us out, and replaces anger and frustration with exhaustion and joy! (Zumba) **At other times the situation calls for our ability to stand firm within our core strength. We become our own superhero! (Pilates) **And sometimes we simply need to quiet ourselves and abide within the stillness of the breath, letting the moment settle…peacefully. (Yoga) ** The process is natural, sequential and powerful.
