Description

Photographic art experiences broaden horizons with new ways of seeing! Explore introductory photography skills through close-looking exercises, guided discussions about camera technique and etiquette, and walks around familiar school surroundings. Young artists make photographs inspired by these exchanges and observations, redirecting the way they see the world around them. Three styles of instant cameras are provided for student use. Especially suited for third through fifth graders as an in-school daytime or afterschool visual art project. Sessions culminate with a gallery display and discussion of photographs made that day. All cameras, films, printing papers, and props provided. Students go home with artworks after each class!

Students Will

  • Learn art technique as related to the medium of photography.
  • Discover how and why light plays an important role in photography.
  • Explore their own personal vision through observations and close-looking exercises.
  • Orally present an artwork during gallery display.
