Description

Photographic art experiences broaden horizons with new ways of seeing! Explore introductory photography skills through close-looking exercises, guided discussions about camera technique and etiquette, and walks around familiar school surroundings indoors and out. Young artists make photographs inspired by these exchanges and observations, redirecting the way they see the world around them. Two styles of instant cameras are provided for student use. Especially suited for third through fifth graders as a virtual synchronous daytime or afterschool visual art project. Sessions culminate with a gallery display and discussion of photographs made that day. All cameras, films, printing papers, and props provided and delivered to the school for a hands-on online experience. Students go home with artworks after each class! (Please note: This class is also offered in-person.) Based on ten (10) students total. Teaching artist to deliver cameras and film kit to Dallas ISD elementary school instructor no later than three (3) days prior to the beginning of class. Teaching artist will collect the cameras no later than three (3) days after the class has ended. *** INSTRUCTOR / STUDENT KITS INCLUDE *** Use of ten (10) instant cameras (each students will have their own camera!) Package of ten sheets of film per student Props for photographing (bundle of silk flowers, such as the ones pictured here that students can keep afterwards) Cameras are sanitized in between uses by teaching artist.

Students Will

  • Learn art technique as related to the medium of photography.
  • Discover how and why light plays an important role in photography.
  • Explore their own personal vision through observations and close-looking exercises.
  • Orally present an artwork during gallery display..

Technical Needs: Tablets/computers and internet connection. A Zoom link will be provided prior to class time. Instant cameras provided for in-school use and delivered by teaching artist. Props and film included. Class session begins indoors online and weather permitting, the students can make photographs outdoors.

Deadline: Please schedule at least two weeks in advance.
Cancellation Policy: Programs cancelled 14 days or less prior to program start date are liable for full payment. In the event of an official Dallas ISD closing, classes may be rescheduled subject to availability. For cancellations or for rescheduling requests, please contact Tammy McNary at 214-543-2836 with a text or phone call.
After School Policy: A school staff member must be present and available for participation and classroom supervision at all times during the program, including SYNCHRONOUS online programs. Artists (students) retain their own images (ARTWORKS). For privacy reasons, students are not permitted to take home images showing their faces or the faces of any class participants under the age of 18. In order to use loaned cameras, students need to be on campus and not learning from home. Dallas ISD Instructor and Teaching Artist will work together to ensure proper handling of loaned cameras, however, Tammy McNary Photography, DBA "Circular Sees" assumes ultimate responsibility. Student attendance and sign-out release to parents or guardians is the sole responsibility of the school staff. Please provide a representative's name, phone number, and email at the time of program confirmation. This representative will collect and sign for the cameras for borrowing purposes and will also be the person to release them back to the teaching artist. A text and/or email reminder of the upcoming program will be sent to the booking contact person one week prior to the scheduled class time.
