Description

Give your students an authentic experience of Japan! The Japan‑in‑a‑Suitcase program is an educational initiative that helps students experience Japanese culture, customs, and contemporary life. A presenter from Japan visits your classroom with a suitcase of objects to share Japanese culture through hands-on activities and oral presentations. Participants will deepen their knowledge of Japanese culture by answering quizzes based on the day's theme. As an activity, everyone will enjoy traditional Japanese dance together. The presentation includes a general introduction to Japan, including locating the country on a map and identifying the concepts of city, state, and country.

Students Will

  • Learn the geographic location and features of Japan, including its relationship to Texas and the United States.
  • Compare and contrast Japanese and American schools.
  • Speak simple greetings and write words in Japanese.
  • Develop an awareness and appreciation of a different culture.
