Description

The Music of Poetry combines live music, theater and creative movement with poetry from around the world. Dream Collectors’ musicians and actors introduce students to a multi-cultural artistic experience which fosters appreciation for diversity and variety. Classical music by Bach, Rossini, Bizet, Rodrigo and Tarrega, traditional folk melodies and original jazz are performed on flute, oboe, guitar, clarinet, accordion and percussion. Poetry by Carl Sandburg, Shel Silverstein, Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni, Frederico Lorca, Joy Harjo, and Ke Yan is spoken in English, Spanish, Chinese and Italian. In addition, Native American poetry with authentic sign language and traditional Sioux music is featured. Teacher Guides provide additional program information, including poetry texts and suggested post-performance activities.

Students Will

  • Hear poetry spoken in English, Italian, Chinese & Spanish.
  • Learn Italian musical terms.
  • Learn Native American sign language.
  • Hear & see flute, oboe, clarinet, accordion and percussion instruments from Africa, Spain, Italy, China, and the Middle East.
  • Participate in post-performance poetry writing project.

Cancellation Policy: A program is confirmed when the four digit approval code is given by the school to Fine Arts Chamber Players. Should illness, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances prevent the program from taking place as scheduled, Fine Arts Chamber Players will offer the option of rescheduling. Programs canceled by a school or community presenter after confirmation are subject to full payment. Fine Arts Chamber Players does not charge a rescheduling fee.
