Description

*Is an individual born a bully? *Can we identify and head off bullying before it happens? *Do you confront the bully, try to reason with the bully, avoid the bully, run from the bully or fight the bully? *What do you do when you cannot avoid a fight? *What is the meaning of personal accountability? *What is a value system and what does it have to do with bullying? Students (4th – 8th grade) engage in higher-level thinking and discussion that helps them better understand the Bullying dilemma. They experience how they can be part of the problem, and better yet, part of the solution. And, they workshop difficult scenarios that prepare them to be agents for change in their schools and communities. The residency occurs in 3 visits, scheduled throughout the school year - example: November, January & May. It is accompanied by an Accountability Manual that helps teachers facilitate conversations between artist visits. The objective is to apply consistent peer-to-peer pressure. ***Workshops are lead by a certified professional life coach.

Students Will

  • Discuss the dynamics of bullying in their school community
  • Participate in role-play experiences that help to identify obvious and subtle bullying situations
  • Brainstorm ideas that help to halt the bullying cycle, while processing the true meaning of personal accountability and social responsibility
  • Explore choices and consequences, cause and effect
  • Listen attentively to speakers, ask relevant questions, and make pertinent comments
  • Express emotions and relate ideas, using interpretive movement and dialogue.
  • React to sensory and emotional experiences
