Description

Kent offers a very exciting way to bring a traditional and popular Japanese artform to your school. Students explore the history of the kabuki theater of Japan while learning the basic movement techniques of the samurai (male) and onnagata (female), wearing kimono costumes and learning to gesture with fans - dramatically popping them open one-handed. In this interactive experience students dramatize characters and action in a traditional Japanese folktale, such as Momotaro (The Peach Boy) or Issun Boshi (The One Inch Boy). The 3-5 day residency culminates in a one-of-a-kind presentation for school or PTA performance complete with kimonos, fans and kumadori (makeup).
