Description

Youth love Hip Hop because it grabs the senses with rhythm, movement and flow. Emotional literacy teaches the importance of recognizing feelings and learning how to express and work through them. During the interactive presentation participants investigate feelings through music, words, movement and internal observation. These elements help them connect with and work through their emotions in ways that are healthy and affirming. The artist touches on themes such as, bullying, social responsibility, personal power, peer pressure and self esteem, and participants are also challenged to be more sensitive to the emotional experiences of others. Youth are captivated by the musicality of the presentation and its ability to move them body, mind and soul. They move & groove to the beat, discuss matters important to them and explore meaningful ways to manage their emotions. Everyone, students and teachers, leave feeling more aware, connected and empowered.

  • Focus, listen and physically respond to what they hear
  • Discuss and compare their experiences and gain understanding of how music, rhythm, songs and words affect them emotionally, physically and mentally
  • Follow oral directions that involve a short related sequence of actions
  • Develop self-awareness through dramatic play
  • React to sensory and emotional experiences
