Description

In this introductory program to glass, Laura gives students a brief history of the origin of glass and how it is made. She instructs students how to design and create their own stained glass projects using professional materials. Junior High students will be able to use tile nippers to shape glass to customize their projects.Students will respond to Laura's smooth incorporation of information through hands-on activities that teach chemistry, abstract realistic design, proportion, scale, and how they relate to stained glass. This class offers a colorful, fun, and satisfying artistic experience that children create from start to finish and are proud to take home.

Students Will

  • design and create their own stained glass suncatcher
  • learn the history and origin of glass and how it is made
  • will learn the copper foil, Tiffany style method of stained glass
  • create a project from start to finish learning new techniques and using professional materials

Dates: Mon-Saturday
Times: 8am-3:00, After school 3:30-6:00
Duration: Four one hour sessions- more can be added for a more in-depth experience through the program extension option in the catalog
School Fee: 4 one-hour classes = $600 + a one time $2.00 supply fee per student. Additional classes can be added hourly, through Stained Glass Program extension for an hourly fee.
Minimum Attendance: 5
Maximum Attendance: 30
Bilingual: No
Technical Needs: Stained glass needs a good workspace in a classroom with a sink or adjacent to a sink.

Instructions: Please contact Laura Strother at 214-632-2882 or at [email protected] to book programs. Please be sure to include your name, school, and site coordinator's name along with a phone number. Please indicate the best way to get in touch with you during the school day.
Deadline: Bookings MUST be made at least three weeks before start date to allow artist to order and prepare materials.
Cancellation Policy: A Program is considered booked after an email confirmation is received from Laura Strother. Any cancellation must be made two weeks prior to start date or risk paying the full fee of the class. Laura will work with you to reschedule dates based on her availability. Please check your desired dates with the district's master calendar for any possible conflicts or testing dates that might interfere with your program.
After School Policy: A teacher or school representative must remain in the classroom during afterschool program at all times to enforce attendance and/or school policies. Laura Strother is not responsible for signing students out, attendance, or discipline of any kind. Students who fail to show up for one or several dates, run the risk of not completing a project and may not have finished artwork to take home.
