Description

Students will explore the ancient techniques of glass and ceramic mosaics by designing and executing a group project. Students start with a brief history of mosaics and do online research for samples. Students then design group project, prepare chipped glass, cement, grout, and clean work for display. Older students make larger, more intricate projects, based on research and personal sketches. Overall, students get the full hands-on experience with professional materials and the satisfaction of learning a new technique and seeing the end product. Larger scale projects for a community garden or school installation can be created beyond the scope of this class as well. Special projects pricing depends on the design and the amount time needed to complete project with students on site. Special projects require working with artist beforehand on design, budget, and scheduling.
