Chefsville continues connecting students for success with Family Engagement Nights. This program is meant to improve student outcomes and school performance from preschool to high school. Science Nights offer a way to share information, provide additional core academic activities and resources that will allow an increase in student achievement while highlighting what students are doing in the classroom. Parents seek opportunities for supporting students at home resulting in student motivation and setting them up for long-term educational success. Chefsville is offering Science Nights to increase awareness of what students need to be successful by having activities that connect cooking with science. Focus is on science objectives using motion, force and energy as a means of food preparation and kitchen safety. Students will walk away excited and wanting to cook recipes that prove scientific principals. "Food is science that you can eat". Different seasons bring different scientific experiments. Students and parents will enjoy Science Nights. Consider the many science projects that are food based! Kids love food and kids love science. Let us encourage them together! Lively culinary demonstrations (some hands-on) are used to engage students imaginations and creativity.

Students Will

  • observe properties of matter and energy used in the cooking process
  • use several forms of energy: mechanical, thermal and chemical
  • engage by using different forms of motion used in cooking
  • learn vocabulary that describes motion and cooking
  • learn about how the body digests food
  • partake in cooking demonstrations and tastings showing how science is used in cooking
  • predict effects of force exerted on ingredients
