Description

After touring the permanent exhibition, you and your students will meet one of the journalists, police officers or eyewitnesses involved in the Kennedy assassination story, or hear from ordinary citizens as they share memories of the tragedy. Presentations incorporate historic films, videos, photographs and more. Previous guests include Detective Paul Bentley, who helped arrest Lee Harvey Oswald, and Bill and Gayle Newman -- closest bystanders to the presidential limousine at the time of the fatal shot. Students can become "junior" oral historians by asking their own questions of the featured guest.

Students Will

  • Study the political, social mood of Dallas in the 1960s.
  • Explore the Civil Rights Movement, Cold War and cultural turmoil of the 1960s.
  • Understand the world response to President Kennedy's death and the ongoing impact of his legacy.
  • Hear from and ask questions of journalists, police officers, eyewitnesses and ordinary citizens with memories of the Kennedy assassination
  • Literary Connections: The Sixties (When I Was Young Series) by Neil Thomson; ISBN-10: 0749663324, ISBN-13: 978-0749663322
