Description

Engage your students' detective skills to uncover the history and meaning behind the Museum's collection of 1960s teaching artifacts, a fun assortment of books, magazines, cameras, toys, clothing, newspapers, photographs, music and more. Discover "what was that" and "how was it used" by observation and deductive reasoning as you unpack a 1960s time capsule! Then, students share their new-found knowledge with the entire group.

Students Will

  • Learn about the life and death of President John F. Kennedy.
  • Explore the Civil Rights Movement, Cold War and cultural turmoil of the 1960s.
  • Understand the world response to President Kennedy's death and the ongoing impact of his legacy.
  • Use teaching artifacts to explore what they tell us about the 1960's.

Dates: Monday - Friday
Times: 10 am - 6 pm
Duration: 50 minutes for History Detectives presentation (+ 1 hour, 15 minutes for tour)
School Fee: History Detectives program is an additional $100 per program; this is in addition to Group Admission.
Minimum Attendance: 20
Maximum Attendance: 60
Bilingual: No
Technical Needs: This program has a 60 student limit, but can be done more than once to accommodate larger groups of students.
Other Information: Audio tour available in Spanish, ASL and other languages. Cancellations must be made 14 days in advance of scheduled visit.

Scheduling / Booking

Deadline: Minimum of 2 weeks prior to scheduled visit.
Cancellation Policy: Groups may alter the confirmed number of tickets up to 14-days prior to their scheduled visit. After that date, groups are accountable for the number of tickets indicated on their emailed confirmation letter. The Museum has a 14-day advance cancellation policy for all tours and education programs. Prepayment is required when booking any education or outreach program. Groups that cancel an education or outreach program less than 14-days in advance of the scheduled program forfeit the cost of the program. Groups that cancel 14-days before their scheduled visit will have their monies returned. For cancellations related to official DISD inclement weather decisions, we will work with schools to find an alternate visit date. Groups may alter the confirmed number of tickets up to 14-days prior to their scheduled visit. After that date, groups are accountable for the number of tickets indicated on their confirmation letter.
