Description

Strengthen your students’ SCIENCE skills and share Texas’ proud natural heritage at the unique, 120-acre Trinity River Audubon Center. Lead your class through wetland, forest, and prairie habitats along 5 miles of trails. Bring your classroom lessons to life with interactive exhibits on watersheds, river geology, the Trinity River, and North Texas ecology. See wildlife both in our indoor animal exhibits and outside in their natural habitats. Develop your students' MATH skills! , we are thrilled to announce the launch of our newest program offered as part of a self-guided field trip in partnership with TalkSTEM – WalkSTEM at TRAC! Although we often don’t realize it, math is all around us. This year-round self-guided experience is designed to engage students with the math found in nature through a series of stops along our trails. At each stop, students will be asked to think critically about a math topic and how they see it played out in nature. Most of the stops include step-by-step math problems for the students to complete. Need a field trip for an ART class? From the beauty of flowers, trees, and wildlife, the vistas from our Overlook Trail and River Overlook, to the unique contemporary architecture of the building, you can let your imagination soar. Connect with the inspiration of a great American artist, John James Audubon: birds and natural spaces! How did early Texan settlers and Native American utilize the Great Trinity Forest and River? How did an illegal dump site become a haven for wildlife? Conservation is not just science, it's CULTURE. The Nature Store offers souvenirs, artwork, toys, books, snacks and more for students and teachers. Indoor and outdoor picnic/lunch areas are available for use. For a deeper learning experience rent a free TRAC Pack at the front desk, complete with field guides, binoculars, and other tools to make the most of your exploration.

Students Will

  • demonstrate safe practices in the field through teacher-led activities
  • explore prairie, forest, and wetland ecosystems through teacher-led activities
