Description

This bilingual plays tells the story of Mexican poetess Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, who lived in Mexico during the 1600’s when women were discouraged from reading and writing. Through perseverance, Sor Juana overcame many obstacles to become the most celebrated poet in Mexico’s history. Highly imaginative, using movement, puppets and audience interaction, Juana Inés: The Child Who Loved To Read is a great example to children of all ages. Students will relate theatre to history, society, and culture, while also developing concepts of self, human relationships, and the environment, using elements of drama and conventions of theatre.

Students Will

  • learn the importance of perseverance
  • view puppets, interact with the actress
  • Literacy Connection: A Library for Juana: The World of Sor Juana Ines by Pat Mora ISBN 0-375-90643-6.
