Description

Our ability to establish and maintain healthy and rewarding relationships with different types of individuals and groups can give us a sense of belonging and also provide support. In this workshop, students will learn the true story of Cesar Chavez, a migrant worker who became a community organizer and worked with his community to bring better working conditions to farmworkers.

Students Will

  • Listen to a reading of Harvesting Hope: the Story of Cesar Chavez by Kathleen Krull
  • Learn about the importance of relationship skills and building community
  • Identify the components of their own community as well as the support provided by their community by making a community map
  • Identify ways to support their community
  • Write about a time when they supported their community or their community supported them

Residencies of 10 sessions or more result in a printed anthology of students' work and the opportunity for students to show off newly developed skills in a public reading to friends and family.
Deadline: two weeks prior notice
Cancellation Policy: A minimum of 48 hours notice is required to cancel a scheduled date. If 48-hour notice is given, we will reschedule the date, based upon the availability of the Instructor. If 48-hour notice is not given, we will bill for the date scheduled and not reschedule the date.
After School Policy: At least one school representative/teacher must be present in the classroom at all times. 25 students maximum per class. Minor adjustments can be negotiated.
