BookMarks! The Journey to Responsible Decision-making (In-person Workshop)

Time Frames
During School Day, After School, Summer
On Campus Program
2nd, 3rd, Community/Fam., Talented/Gifted

Responsible decision-making is our ability to make positive choices that are honorable, kind, safe, and realistic. When we make a decision responsibly, we consider how what we do will affect ourselves and others. We also consider and evaluate different paths to accomplish our goals. Responsible decision-making makes our community stronger because it results in better solutions that are more equitable. In this workshop, students will learn about an immigrant family’s journey to reach safety and evaluate the decisions made along the way. Students will then write about a personal decision they have made and create and a concept map of the considerations they used to make that decision. Finally, students will share their stories and concept maps.

Students Will

  • Listen to a reading of The Journey by Francesca Sanna
  • Learn the elements of responsible decision-making
  • Discuss how responsible decision-making affects their community
  • Write about a personal experience with decision-making
  • Create a concept map of the factors that influenced their decision-making process
  • Share their stories and concept maps with other students
