Description

Setting is more than where and when a story takes place. It also includes the social and cultural environment. It affects who our characters are and what they can do. Students will view a variety of settings and discuss the stories that could happen in them. Then, they will hear the story The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein and discuss its setting and how it affects the story. Finally, students will create their own setting and write a short story that takes place in it.

Students Will

  • Listen to the story The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein
  • Apply comprehension strategies to text
  • Explore the elements of a story's setting and think about how it affects the plot
  • Create their own setting
  • Write a story that takes place in the story they have created
