Description

“The Me Nobody Sees” is a creative exploration of the self, using texts from literature (both classic and contemporary), selections of visual artworks, and visual arts and or writing exercises for students to write about (and discover) who they are. As a general concept, we write from what is around us--what we see, what we hear, what we read, and what we think or know. Revising our own writing or the writing of others is also a creative process. In fact, we can use “found” literature to create an original literary text or work of art. In this workshop, students will explore erasure and revision as a creative process by listening to erasure poems and creating their own black-out poems and visual designs.

Students Will

  • Discuss how writing can be a resource for personal growth and expressing our creativity
  • Explore the concept of revision
  • Listen to examples of erasure and blackout poetry
  • Discuss how revision can be a creative process
  • Compare revision to self-regulation
  • Write an erasure or blackout poem that describes themselves
  • Create a blackout illustration using a page of text.
